Doris’ Flowers & Gifts is a family-owned and operated florist that has been a Columbia staple since 1969. Three generations of women run this shop including Doris herself, her daughters Terry, Vonda, Honey & Brenda, as well as her granddaughter, Emmarynthe.

It all started when Doris was a young mom of 4 children who were all in school. Doris began studying and taking classes by mail to learn the craft of floral arrangements. Over the years, Doris’ Flowers & Gifts has provided flowers for Christmas parade floats on the Columbia Square, decorations for events hosted by Maury Alliance, presented flowers for Mule Day Queens & their courts and have also had displays in the Nashville Lawn and Garden Show; however, they pride themselves on the moments they have shared with the Columbia community on an individual basis.

Whether an anniversary bouquet, a funeral flower arrangement or a “just because” floral arrangement, Doris’ Flowers & Gifts truly place their heart and intentions in each arrangement to provide the best product possible to each customer. “It is our duty, and we take it very seriously, to ensure we communicate and convey the emotions of the sender to the recipient no matter what the occasion. We always want to make sure each individual is represented well and we do this by customizing each order with handcrafted arrangements, high-quality flowers and passion,” according to Emmarynthe.

Emmarynthe, Brenda and Honey walked me through their flower inventory and process. Their flowers are shipped in with care from all over the world: Tulips from Holland, Roses from Rio and from as far as Japan. Emmarynthe even joked how she loves seeing the Japanese print newspapers in the floral packaging.

Doris and Brenda are the main florists who create and design all of the arrangements that go out into the community. They both seek continued education even though they already hold many titles and awards. A few of these include being members of the Central Tennessee Florist Association, the Tennessee State Florist Association and having their certification & membership for the American Institute of Floral Design. A fun fact, currently Doris and Brenda are the only mother and daughter team to complete the American Institute of Floral Design at the same time.

I spent an hour with Brenda, Honey and Emmarynthe today and something that very much stood out to me above all else is their shared passion for their community members, the flowers they provide and their reputation. Every effort from bookkeeping to scheduling deliveries to the arrangements themselves is met with a very detailed initiative and heartfelt purpose. I was left with a word of sincerity from Brenda as she said, “We strive to be the best and do the best for each and every client.”
