J.W. Shouse, age 87, well-known resident of Goshen Road in Santa Fe, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 21st at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Joe Bowers and Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Goshen Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, June 20th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Monday from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

J.W. was born November 25, 1933 in Maury County and was the son of the late Thomas Cleveland Shouse and the late Ethel Hood Shouse. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1952 and married the love of his life Jewell Baker Shouse on her 20th birthday, February 10, 1956. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2019. J.W. was a lifelong member of Goshen United Methodist Church and served our country in the United States Army. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and he also was a founding member and treasurer of The Santa Fe Fire Department. He worked for Western Electric and Bell South, retiring in 1992. He had a love of collecting Ford Trucks and cars with his favorite being the 1960 Thunderbirds. He enjoyed farming, cutting hay, feeding cattle, and most recently riding the ranger on his farm feeding the ducks. His real love was within the family, always doing whatever his grandchildren wanted. He cherished eating lunch with his son Joey every day. He was the best all-around person you could have ever known. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his son, Joey (Tammy) Shouse of Santa Fe; grandchildren, J.T. Shouse (Bailey Bullock) of Santa Fe and Jennifer Shouse (Cody Slaughter) of Primm Springs; sisters, Clara Mae Malugin of Columbia, Martha Nichols of Mt. Juliet, and Faye (Gerald) Adkison of Santa Fe; brother-in-law, Cecil (Marilyn) Baker of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law, Betty Shouse of Santa Fe, Janet Shouse of Lawrenceburg, Rheta (James) Wilkins of Cookeville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Shouse November 3, 1978; special aunt, Blanche Hood; brothers, Arthur Shouse and Bobby Shouse, and infant brother Ronnie Shouse; and brothers-in-law, Eddie Bratton, Paul Malugin, and Steve Nichols.

Pallbearers will be Randy Maxwell, Henry Harris, Kenneth Davis, Enoch George, Clyde Skelley, Kevin Humphrey, David Sewell, Paul Dugger, Travis Warf, and Jerry Gardner. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Goshen United Methodist Church, the Breakfast Crew of The Santa Fe Diner and Nett’s Country Store, and the members of the Telephone Pioneers.
