Clara Wells passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022 at her residence.

She was born in Dayton, Tennessee but lived most of her life in Columbia. Many years ago Clara and Betty started Betty’s Parkway Restaurant, where she worked as a part-time day manager and server for 24 years before retiring.

Clara was an avid fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the Tennessee Titans, and also loved NASCAR racing. One of her greatest joys was going to craft fairs and flea markets. She was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Parkway Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Tony (Kathy) Karnes; granddaughter, Angela Karnes; companion and best friend, Danny Gipson; and brother, Harold (Shirley) Stutzenberger.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Violet Wilson; son, Chuck Karnes; and grandson, Aaron “Tony” Karnes.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 6, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at Parkway Baptist Church with David Roberts and Reverend Mike Roberts officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church. Burial will be held in Dayton, Tennessee at Rhea Memorial Gardens. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Parkway Baptist Church, 1500 Tom J. Hitch Parkway, Columbia, TN 38401 or American Legion Auxiliary, 104 East Point Drive, Nashville, TN 37216.
