Elizabeth Jane Whitaker McPeak, 83, former substitute teacher, died Monday, July 11, 2022 at her residence in Cross Bridges.

Born March 2, 1939 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Ninian G. Whitaker and the late Johnnie Mai Johnson Whitaker.

On September 11, 1965, she married Charles Kenneth McPeak who preceded her in death on November 15, 2019. She was a 1957 graduate of Hampshire High School where she was the secretary of her senior class and was the Salutatorian. Mrs. McPeak had previously worked for Tennessee Farm Bureau, Stauffers Chemical Company, Columbia Slag, and McClellans Store.

She was a member of Tennessee Farm Bureau Cattlemen Association, Tennessee Young Farmer’s Home Makers, Order of the Golden Rule, and Zion Presbyterian Church. Mrs. McPeak loved traveling, going to country music events and camping.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Roberta McPeak; cousins, Catherine Southall, Marjorie Burns; and very special friends Matthew and Jessica Hill.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Churchyard. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Breece, Frank Jones, Mark Rayne, Millard Dale, Brett Herrman, Ray Holden, George Brooks, and Bernie Burns.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Ronnie Reed, Mark Breece, Betty Holden, Betty Fischer, John and Jan Cates, Donna Farris and Matthew and Jessica Hill.
