Gladys McMeen Woody, 100, homemaker, died Saturday, January 22, 2022 at her residence in the Santa Fe Community.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 2:30 P.M. at Santa Fe Cemetery with Reverend Ronnie Pittenger and Reverend Sherry Ladd officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. and Monday from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Born March 8, 1921, in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Zelner Earnest McMeen and the late Viola Skillington McMeen.

On June 7, 1946, she married John Burton Woody who preceded her in death on November 7, 2009. She was a 1939 graduate of Santa Fe High School. Mrs. Woody was an excellent cook, loved raising sheep, loved her dogs, especially her beloved dog, Sohie Chen, and cat, Sam. For many years, she was a member of the Santa Fe Home Demonstration Club and a long-time member of Santa Fe Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her niece, Mary Frances Loftin of Columbia; great-nieces, Linda Gayle Loftin of Brentwood; Misty Dawn Loftin of Columbia; extended family on the Woody side including Burton’s nieces and nephews and sister in law, Barbara Walters Woody; and special friends, Kay and Jimmy Humphrey, Barbara Buie, Christine, and Marion Sewell.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Odie McMeen.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Woody, Jimmy Humphrey, Dean Sewell, David Sewell, George Ladd, and Byron White.
