Mr. James Glenn Sharpton, 74, resident of Culleoka, died Sunday, January 2, 2022 at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Sharpton will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital 501 St. Jude’s Place Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Born on February 21, 1947, he was the son of the late James Leo Sharpton and the late Dura Marie Jennings Sharpton Childress. He was a member of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. On March 9, 1974, he married Linda Kay Lindsey Sharpton who preceded him in death on October 11, 2016. Mr. Sharpton was retired from Union Carbide and owned and operated The Toy Box that restored classic vehicles. He enjoyed going to and participating in car shows and won many trophies from restoring and showing street rods. Every Thursday he enjoyed getting together with his car buddies, sitting around, and enjoying each other’s company. He was a devoted and loving husband to his late wife Linda.

Survivors include his stepson, James Ricky Rummage of Bowling Green, Kentucky; stepdaughter, Pamela Kay Rummage of Pulaski; sisters, Gail (Jim) Thornburg and Lori (Troy) Hughes of Columbia; brother, Jerry W. (Diane) Sharpton, Sr. of Columbia; five step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Timmy Sharpton and Billy Sharpton that helped him during his illness. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter, Tiffany Brooke Rummage, and a step-grandson Zachary Glenn Rummage.

Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be The Country Cruisers Car Club and Union Carbide Retirees.
