Jan Marian Kis, age 71, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away Monday, September 13, 2021, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 6:00 PM at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Reehil officiating. A visitation will also be held on Friday from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at the church. He will be laid to rest in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee is assisting the family with local arrangements.
Jan was born on May 12, 1950, in Branice, Poland, and was the son of the late Piotr Kis and the late Maria Antoniuk Kis. He relocated to the United States in 1982, and in 1986, married Maria Noworyta. They transferred to Tennessee in 1993, and he worked at General Motors for over thirty years before retiring in 2020. He was headstrong and had a great sense of humor. He collected coins, and in his younger years enjoyed carpentry and woodwork. Jan loved cooking and enjoying Polish food, was a world geography and modern Polish history buff, and a huge supporter of the Polish National Soccer team. Above all, he loved spending time and traveling with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Albert Kis of Vero Beach, FL, daughter, Helena Kis of Columbia, TN, sister, Wladyslawa Szumny, nephews, Janusz Szumny, Milosz (Czeslawa) Szumny, cousin, Igor (Tania) Antoniuk, great niece, Kasia Szumny, and great nephews, Piotr Szumny and Pawel Szumny.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Franciszek Kis.
