James Roy Grinder, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and loved ones, passed away on June 24, 2025, in Columbia, Tennessee, at the age of 82. Born on February 22, 1943, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to the late Irvin and Della Riley Grinder, Jim was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, kindness, and gentle spirit.

Jim’s journey through life was one marked by devotion to his family and an unwavering commitment to creating a warm and loving home. He was a cherished husband to his wife of 55 years, Sharon Kay Ammons Grinder, and a guiding light to his children, Arlene Taylor, Darlene (Steve) Maloney, Renee (Melvin) Pace, Shalene (Denise) Grinder, and Jason Lamont. His legacy of love endures through his 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish memories of his unwavering support at their sporting events and his shared joy in their accomplishments.

Jim’s life was filled with the simple pleasures of fishing and golfing, activities that brought him joy and allowed him to forge lasting friendships. A fan of UT sports, he could often be found cheering on his team with the same passion he devoted to every aspect of his life. Jim’s competitive nature was always present, whether on the golf course, at the fishing hole, or in lively games with his children and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his siblings, Frances Denton and Irvin Grinder Jr., Jim’s memory will be honored and cherished by all who knew him.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Lomax Church of Christ from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Brother Jeff Spears will officiate a service to celebrate Jim’s life. Following the service, Jim will be laid to rest at Lomax Church of Christ Cemetery.
