Mr. Marlin “Ray” Hooten, age 77, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Born on September 1, 1945, in Shady Grove, Tennessee, Ray was the son of the late Alvin York Hooten and the late Stella Goins Hooten.

He served in the United States Army and enjoyed working over the years as an over the road, long haul truck driver. A wonderful personality, Ray never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing and loved his family unconditionally. He attended Wilderness Chapel Church.

He is survived by his children, Karen (Sammy) Boehms of Columbia, TN, Keith (Carla) Hooten of Pontotoc, MS, Kevin (Reneé) Hooten of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Pam (Sheldon) Davis of Lewisburg, TN, Kelley (Malcolm) Kantonen of Seattle, WA, brother, Jim (Valarie) Hooten of Culleoka, TN, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Sanders Hooten, brothers, Rezel, Harold, and Mike Hooten, and sisters, Yvonne Brady and Jean Wilkes.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points and John Rawdon officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Keith Hooten, Jimmy Hooten, Bobby Kilpatrick, Will Mabry, and Sheldon Davis. Honorary pallbearers will include his best friend, Leon Hunter, and friends at Wilderness Chapel Church.
