Mary Melissa Quillen, known fondly as Melissa to her friends and family, passed away on May 11, 2025, at the age of 67, in Columbia, Tennessee.
Born on March 19, 1958, in Hohenwald, Tennessee, she brought joy and laughter into the world. Melissa’s life was marked by her quick wit, wisdom, and boundless love, which she generously shared with all who knew her.
Melissa was the daughter of the late Grover McDonald and Mary Ruth Hensley, a devoted wife to her late husband, James Quillen, and a loving mother to her late daughter Stephanie Nicole Quillen. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Nicky Edwards, and son-in-law, Rick, who will miss her deeply. Her legacy continues through her adoring grandson, John Edwards, who was the light of her life. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Glenda Smotherman, and her nephews, Austin Pitts, Carson Tolar, and Dillon Smotherman, who will carry fond memories of their aunt with them always.
Melissa dedicated many years of her life as an EKG technician at Maury Regional, where she was known for her dedication and care for her patients.
In her personal time, Melissa had a passion for collecting glassware and antiques. Her collection was a testament to her appreciation for history and beauty in everyday objects. Friends and family would often find themselves engaged in lively conversations about the stories behind each piece, as Melissa was a natural storyteller with an infectious enthusiasm for her interests.
Melissa’s life was filled with moments of joy, and love shared. Her impact on the world was significant, and the memories she created will be treasured by her family and friends.
