Polly Elizabeth “Bettie” Calvert Dugger, 81, a retired teacher at Culleoka Unit School, died Thursday, June 30, 2022, at her residence in Franklin.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Friendship Cemetery with Reverend Bryan Brooks officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Born January 7, 1941, in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lamar Calvert and the late Marjorie Gabell Calvert. On June 30, 1960, she married Jonathan Hunt Dugger who preceded her in death on September 21, 2011, after 51 years of a wonderful marriage. She was a 1958 graduate of Culleoka High School. In 1962, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and English and in 1964 a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Middle Tennessee State University. Mrs. Dugger was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Blackman Methodist Church in Murfreesboro,
Survivors include her daughters, Susan (Ralph) Standbrook, and Sarah Fleming; son-in-law, Gary Fleming; grandchildren, Jonathan Hunt Standbrook, Abigail Katherine Standbrook, Emily Elizabeth Fleming; sister, Barbara (Billy) Dial; niece, Margi (Scott) Mennen; nephew, Michael (Jackie) Dial; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Betty and Ray Holden.
Active pallbearers will be Jon Standbrook, Michael Dial, Scott Mennen, Brad Fleming, Walker Jones, Dennis Holden, and David Hobbs. Honorary pallbearers include Ray Holden, Billy Dial, Jim Goodloe, John Goodloe, Ed Morton, Roy Mitchell, and Troy Mitchell.
