Roy LaRue, born July 13, 1949, in Maury County, Tennessee, to Elvin and Lydia Bell LaRue, passed away peacefully in his beloved home on September 9, 2024.
Roy bore the marks of a lifetime of hard work. His calloused hands were a testament to his dedication and skill. As a master Brick and Stone Mason, and affectionately called a “Grumpy Old Man,” he earned widespread respect for his craftsmanship and relentless work ethic, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Roy possessed a sharp intellect, characterized by his ability to think quickly and easily solve problems. His keen mind was always engaged, whether he was tackling a challenging word search or navigating complex situations. His intellectual agility was a defining feature of his personality, allowing him to approach life’s puzzles with skill and determination.
Despite his stern exterior, Roy looked forward to spending time with his great-grandchildren. Each morning, he greeted his great-grandson with a fist-bump, a small but cherished ritual that underscored his deep affection. Roy found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, from smoking his Swisher Sweets, to embracing the beauty and calmness of the great outdoors. His love for fishing was matched only by his enthusiasm for football and NASCAR, passions that brought him great joy and camaraderie.
A devoted member of his church, Roy’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. His unwavering commitment to his Pentecostal church community was a testament to his steadfast belief and the values he held dear.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Marie LaRue, and his son, Timmy Wayne LaRue. He also leaves behind a special dear friend, Joyce Crafton, as well as Roy’s nephew, Gerry LaRue, who held a special place in his heart, akin to that of a beloved son. Their bond was deep and enduring, forged through years of shared experiences and mutual affection.
Their time together was often spent outdoors, where they found solace and joy in the simplicity of fishing. These days gone fishing weren’t just about the catches; they were about moments of quiet reflection, storytelling, and the unspoken understanding that comes from spending quality time together. Whether it was early mornings on the water or leisurely afternoons by the creek, each time “gone fishing” was a treasured opportunity for them to connect, share laughs, and make lasting memories.
Roy’s legacy is one of steadfast hard work, a loving spirit for family, and a profound appreciation for life’s simple joys. His absence will be profoundly felt, yet he will be remembered with great affection. His memory will continue to inspire and touch the lives of all who had the honor of knowing him.
