Walter Vernon Pruitt, age 89, husband of Eva Mae Winn Pruitt, and a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.
A native of Maury County, Vernon was born on December 23, 1932, and was the son of the late Walter Pruitt and the late Laura Blankenship Pruitt.
He married Eva Mae Winn on July 8, 1950, and together they had three children. He worked many years at Consolidated Aluminum before retiring in 1980. After retirement, he and his brother, Arnold, owned and operated Pruitt’s Auto for many years.
His pride and joy were his grandchildren, and over the years, he was committed to them and all their activities. Vernon was a long-time member of Liberty Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Wayne (Joanne) Pruitt of Columbia, daughter, Brenda (Jimmy) Glenn of Columbia, sister in law, Betty Pruitt of Williamsport, very special grandchildren, Melissa Glenn of Lewisburg, Brandon (Kindal) Pruitt of Alabama, Jennifer (Larry) Jennette of Columbia, Daniel (Jessica) Pruitt of Knoxville, and great-grandchildren, Walter Pruitt, Warren Pruitt, Rheagan Jennette, Cassidy Jennette, Adalyn Pruitt, and Lincoln Pruitt.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Marshall Glen Pruitt and brothers, Donald Pruitt, Arnold Pruitt, and Jimmy Pruitt.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Pruitt, Daniel Pruitt, Gary Pruitt, Kerry Pruitt, David Pruitt, Ronnie Pruitt, and Mike Pruitt.
Honorary pallbearers will include Dr. Doug Kennedy and his staff and members of Liberty Baptist Church.
