Wanda Gail Harmon

Wanda Gail Harmon, age 62, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at her home, after a seventeen-year-long courageous fight with breast cancer.

A celebration of life visitation will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

A native of Maury County, Wanda was born on April 16, 1959, and was the daughter of Lavelle Riggins and the late Johnnie R. Riggins, who preceded her in death on January 29, 2021. She was a 1977 graduate of Columbia Central High School and worked as the library assistant at E.A. Cox Middle School for twenty-three years. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Lynnville. Wanda often enjoyed shopping, reading, and taking road trips with her friends. She was the heart of her family that she loved unconditionally, especially her grandchildren. She was a strong supporter of Relay for Life through her survivor group “Bosom Buddies.”

Wanda was the epitome of positivity, grit, grace, and inspiration. Despite her battles, she continued to uplift and encourage others. She was seldom without a smile and brought joy to all that knew her. Her courage and faith, determination, and drive are the legacies she left to all who had the honor of knowing her. A true hero to many, she will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her son, Nicholas (Natalie) Harmon of Spring Hill, TN, brother, Ryan (Charlotte) Riggins of Maryville, TN, sister, Renee (Ronnie) Vann of Columbia, TN, grandchildren, Abby, Grady, and Olivia Harmon, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Honorary pallbearers will include Wanda’s past and present co-workers at E.A. Cox Middle School, Pastor Blake Hawthorne, and the members of Lynnville First Presbyterian Church.
