Assistant Chief Jeremy Haywood has awarded FTO Austin Sanders with Columbia Police Department’s Officer of the Month for October 2023.
On October 28th, 2023, FTO Austin Sanders initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. During his initial contact, FTO Sanders noticed the driver was displaying more than the usual type of nervous behavior. While completing the citation, FTO Sanders interviewed the driver and he admitted to having narcotics in the vehicle and gave consent for the vehicle to be searched. After a complete search of the vehicle, FTO Sanders located over 1 pound of marijuana hidden in the vehicle.
Thanks to FTO Sanders efforts the offender was arrested, and 1 pound of marijuana was seized.
