Barbara Cannon, a kind and loving woman who cherished her family above all else, passed away on February 20, 2023, at the age of 73.
Barbara was born on July 22, 1949, and grew up on a farm where she developed a lifelong love for horses. She was a talented barrel racer and became the first girl in her area to join a 4H club in her high school. She remained involved in the equestrian world throughout her life, sharing her passion with her family and friends.
In addition to her love for horses, Barbara had a great affinity for spending time with her loved ones. She was a devoted mother to her son and daughter James Cannon and Eunice Hughes, and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, Rachel Mathys, Rebecca McCandless, Tiffany Hughes, and her great-grandson Elijah Terrell. She loved nothing more than spending time with them, and especially enjoyed completing puzzles and going shopping together.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Herschel Roy Cannon, her parents John Robert Turnage and Bertha Havens Turnage, her son John Robert Cannon, and her brother Ralph Turnage. Although she faced these losses with strength and resilience, her passing has left a profound emptiness in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
Barbara’s memory will be cherished by her surviving family members, who will remember her for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. Her legacy will live on through those whose lives she touched, and she will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee. A service for Barbara Cannon will be on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee with Bro. Bob Vassar officiating. Barbara will be laid to rest at Nashville National Cemetery in Madison, Tennessee with her husband.
