Beverly Ann Roach Dawson, 86, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Beverly was born March 30, 1936, in Columbia, TN. She was the daughter of the late James Glenn Roach, a veteran who served in the US Army during World War II in the Philippines and the late Mary Estelle Webb Roach.

Beverly was a 1954 graduate of Columbia Central High School, where she played drums in the band and was a majorette, a member of the Sub Debs, and was voted CHS Sweetheart her Senior Year.

Her most fervent desire was for everyone to know the love of God, to obey the gospel, be baptized and join our Lord in Heaven for eternity. She was a member at Berea Church of Christ. For many years she was a member at Eastside Church of Christ where she faithfully attended until her health prevented her from doing so. While there, she taught children’s classes, and loved supporting others by attending many weddings and baby showers where she often was the “life of the party”. She was also known as the “card” lady because for many years she sent cards to multiple friends and family members.

Beverly met Jimmy Dawson in 1957, and after 3 months of dating, they were married on August 12, 1957. Not only was he the “love of her life”, but he also studied the Bible with her, and she was baptized in 1960 at Eastside Church of Christ. Their whole life was centered around doing God’s work. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary the year before he passed away in March 2018. She missed him so much over these last 5 years, so we are comforted in knowing that she is with him again.

Survivors include her daughter, Julie (Eric) Whisler of Nashville; son, Mark Edward Dawson of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Brittany Whisler Shaw of Joliet, Illinois; Joshua Whisler of Orlando, FL; her sister, Sue (Jim) Roach Webb; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “Jimmy” Dawson; her siblings, Norma Roach, William (Bill) Roach, and Jerry Roach.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 am at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Richard Farris officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family members will visit with friends Friday, February 17, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and again from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Edward Dawson, Eric Whisler, Joshua Whisler, James D. Webb, Addison Barnes, Greg Lusk, Drew Love and Alex Jones. Honorary pallbearers include Jim Gordon, Joe Rotureau, Jr., Doug Brown, Richard Bell, Dale and Pat Crews, Francis and Richard Love, and Mildred Holcomb.

The family suggests memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 478 Craighead Street, Suite 200, Nashville, TN 37204, or a mission close to Beverly’s heart is Dino Tzanetos’ evangelism outreach to his fellow Greek citizens and citizens from other countries now residing in Greece, as well as outreach to incarcerated persons. Donations may be sent to Sycamore Church of Christ, c/o Kathy McCoy, 1910 Sycamore View Drive, Memphis, TN 38134, and should be designated for “Dino Tzanetos/Greek Mission”.

Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The family would also like to thank the Staff and Residents at Morning Point Spring Hill for their kindness and dedication over the last 5 years.
