Emma Lorene Cates, age 80, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Williamson Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 5th from 4-7 PM and again on Monday, September 6th from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on March 31, 1941, in Columbia, Lorene was the daughter of the late Dossie Homer Cates and the late Mandy Louella Baker Cates. She enjoyed reading her Bible, sitting on her front porch, and watching television. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and dearly loved her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Wanda (Robert) Green of Mulliken, MI, Jerry Cates of Maury County, TN, Terry (Pamela) Cates of Ethridge, TN, Joyce Wren of Columbia, TN, Glenda (Jeff) Haskins of Joelton, TN, Wilma (Joe) Geary of Michigan, Angela “Tina” (Joe) Morrison of Nashville, TN, stepson, Bill Cates of Texas, brother, James Cates of Lewisburg, TN, twenty-three grandchildren, seventy-one great-grandchildren, and twenty great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Cates, daughter, Juantia Faye Cates, brothers, Paul Cates, Lonnie B. Cates, sister, Betty Botelho, stepchildren, Wayne Cates and Floyd Cates, and grandson, Charles Kelley.
Pallbearers will be Terry Cates, Joe Morrison, Matt Tate, Jerry Cates, Jacob Burk, and Monty Wren. Honorary pallbearers will include Darryl Cates.
