Mr. James “Jim” Alan Hutchens, age 68, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at his residence.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Jeffrey Kane officiating. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on May 7, 1953, in Anderson, Indiana, Jim was the son of the late Ernest Hutchens and the late Margaret Field Hutchens. He worked thirty-three years for Saturn before retiring in 2004. Jim was a devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He had a true servant’s heart, loved helping others, and was very involved in community service. He was an avid runner and loved his pets. Above all, he loved his family and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Woods Hutchens, sisters, Janet Sarvis, Peggy (Jim) Teague, mother in law, Virginia Woods, sisters in law, Teresa Woods, Carol (Jerry) Wren, nieces, Natasha Duncan, Jamie (David) Zloch, Christy Taylor, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Sherman, father-in-law, Edward Woods, brother-in-law, Dennis Sarvis, and niece, Sara Teague.
