Helen Marie Cothron, age 87, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Life Care Center.
Born on April 26, 1935, in Lawrenceburg, Marie was the daughter of the late Lester Garrard and the late Ida Chandler Garrard.
She was a 1954 graduate of Columbia Central High School and worked as a certified nursing assistant at Hillview Haven Nursing Home before retiring in 1992.
She raised her six children and a granddaughter, Ginger, from an infant up. She was extremely family oriented, and she loved and adored all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who each were very significant to her.
Helen loved visiting her family in Cleveland, Ohio, and she had a special nephew, Ronnie Kelton, who enjoyed visiting Marie from Ohio. She was an avid reader, and her greatest joy was music, especially Loretta Lynn. Helen was a loving, caring, and giving person who was very special to many people and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, Donnie Joe Cothron of Columbia, Terry Lynn (Libby) Cothron of Columbia, Marshall Wade Cothron of Columbia, Sheila Darlene Cothron of Columbia, Jan (Marty) Roberts of Culleoka, grandchildren, Kimberly (Scott) Vandiver, Jeremy Joe Cothron, Angela (Corie) Claude, Terry (Melissa) Cothron, Brittany (Paul) Newcomb, Amanda (Jeffrey) Cothron, Kevin Norman, Kendra Cooper, Ginger (Justin) Marrow, Melissa (Donald) Lovely, Alisha (Brian) McClure, Roy Roberts, Jr., thirty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, with one great-great-grandchild on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Ann Cooper, grandson, Brian Norman, daughter-in-law, Alisa Norman, and siblings, Eva Pearl Calton, Marjorie Geneva Pipkin, Ed Garrard, Alvin Garrard, Noven Garrard, Lester Garrard, Jr., Alton Garrard, and Joann Duberry.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. https://www.tnfunerals.com
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Joe Cothron, Terry Cothron, Roy Roberts, Jr., Donald Lovely, Brian McClure, and Jaden Prince. Marie’s great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
