Mrs. Peggy Wilson Jones, 88, homemaker, and resident of Columbia, died Thursday, February 24, 2022 at NHC Columbia.

Peggy Ann Wilson Jones (Mama Peggy to most) was born in Martin Hollow in Campbell Station, Tennessee on April 23, 1933 to Vernon and Lillian Wilson. She was the eighth of ten children and lovingly the “baby girl”.

The family moved from Campbell Station to Culleoka when she was 10 years old. She attended Junior High and High School at Culleoka and graduated in the Class of 1951. She also attended Columbia Business College.

Her senior year she met her soulmate, Bill Jones, and they were married on March 23, 1952. In 1953 they began their family, eventually having six children. She spent a large portion of her life being a mother and housewife. They were blessed with six children, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Later in life, she worked at a travel agency delivering tickets to which she would say “I just needed something to do”. She was an excellent cook and blessed many people with her meals at church functions. She enjoyed doing word searches and listening to country, bluegrass, and gospel music on the radio in her downtime.

She was deeply rooted in her faith and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was a very active member of the Eastside congregation that is now the South Gate congregation. She and her husband Bill took great care of the church building as custodians and preparing the Lord’s Supper each Sunday for several years.

She was a caregiver all of her life. She has touched countless families with her compassion and love for others. She left a mark on many hearts and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Edith Wilson Voss, Charles Henry Wilson, Thomas Milton Wilson, Beatrice Dale Wilson Hobbs, Reba Wilson Dixon, Wendell Buck Wilson, James Douglas Wilson, Bobby Wayne Wilson; and grandson, Trevor Scott.

Survivors include her children, Pam (Steve) Burgett of Culleoka; Linda Kuykendall of Columbia; Donna (Mike) Hubbell of Culleoka; Randy (Melissa) Jones of Culleoka; Roger Jones of Columbia; Lori Jones of Culleoka; grandchildren, Chris Burgett, Alissa (Josh) Davidson, Andrea Handschug, Dylan Hubbell, Alex (Samantha) Jones, Jessica (Blake) Daniels, Tara Jones (Joe) Reese, Josh (Morgan) Jones, Samantha (Ben) Parker, Hannah (A.J.) Dickens; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Childrey; sisters-in-law, Jean Wilson, Patsy Wilson, Jane Wilson and Cornelia Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 1st at 2:00 p.m. at South Gate Church of Christ with John Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.
