Ruth Estelle Potts Smith

Ruth Estelle Potts Smith, age 92, a resident of Culleoka and originally from Primm Springs, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 2:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with David Morris and John Stanfill officiating. Burial will follow in Potts Cemetery in Primm Springs, TN. A visitation will be held on February 18th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ruth was born on September 7, 1929 in Primm Springs and was the daughter of the late Calvin Potts, Sr., and the late Josie Byrd Potts.

Over the years, Ruth owned several grocery stores, starting at the early age of 17. She spent most of her working years in the timber and sawmill business. At one time, she was operating sawmills in three separate locations. Ruth enjoyed raising beef cattle and didn’t even mind the fencing. She also had an appreciation for a fast car! Ruth was the matriarch of her family; loved and took care of everyone. She had a giving heart and helped many along life’s way. A member of Highland Church of Christ, she was a faithful Christian. She took great pleasure in helping others. Ruth also served as Vice President and co-owner of Stanfill Hardwood Lumber in Culleoka.

She is survived by her son, Phil (Lesa) Stanfill of Santa Fe; brother, Charlie Potts of Santa Fe; sisters, Kathleen Mitchell, Ester (Wayne) Kinney, Earline Morrow, all of Santa Fe and Carolyn Potts of Columbia; grandchildren, Allison Stanfill and Hayden Stanfill; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Potts, R.B. Potts, Calvin Potts Junior, and Frank Potts; and sisters, Marie Goodson and Audrey Slaughter.

Pallbearers will be nephew, Shane Potts and great-nephews, Brandon Jones, Cody Slaughter, Jonathan Walters, Blake Walters, Clay Barnes, Dan Matlock, and Dave Matlock. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Stanfill Hardwood Lumber.
