James Walker Woody, 92, retired employee of Union Carbide and long-time resident of Santa Fe, died Friday, January 13, 2023 at Waynesboro Health and Rehab.

Born August 17, 1930 in Maury County, he was the son of the late James Clarence Woody and the late Virgie McKee Woody.

On June 12, 1947, he married Alice Margarette Fitzgerald Woody who preceded him in death in 2011. Mr. Woody was an avid collector, sold used cars, motorcycles, restored hit and miss engines, restored antique tractors among other things. He enjoyed traveling and flea markets. Mr. Woody was a long-time member and Elder of Santa Fe Cumberland Presbyterian Church and member of The Volunteer’s for Christ Organization.

Survivors include his son, Kent (Anita) Woody of Columbia; daughter, Carolyn Woody (Richard) Lacher of Waynesboro; sister, Christine (Marion) Sewell of Santa Fe; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Gaye Peach.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Elizabeth Woody; brother, Carlton Woody; and great-grandson, Joseph Levi Reichman.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Sherry Ladd and Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Santa Fe Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2630 Santa Fe Pike, Santa Fe, TN 38482 or Santa Fe Cemetery, c/o Mark and Mimi Priest, 3782 Raleigh Beard Road, Santa Fe, TN 38482.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Hughes, Tyler Hughes, Robert Reichman, Andrew Reichman, Ben Woody, Kara Sustic, and Dean Sewell. Honorary pallbearers include members of Santa Fe Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Tom Allen, Danny Fox, and Doug Pilkinton.
